Nearly four decades after it first reshaped the language of Malayalam parallel cinema, Amma Ariyan is set to return to the global stage. The final film directed by John Abraham will have the world premiere of its restored 4K version at the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, scheduled to be held from May 12 to 23 in France.The restored version of the 1986 Malayalam cult classic is the only Indian feature selected for a world premiere at this year's festival, marking a major moment not just for Malayalam cinema, but also for the preservation of Indian film heritage.
