Matt Winkelmeyer / Getty Images for The Recording Academy People reports the beloved actor was vacationing in Costa Rica with his family, and unexpectedly drowned while swimming. Costa Rican National Police told ABC News that Malcolm drowned off the coast of Costa Rica. His official cause of death was asphyxia, police said.

HuffPost has not independently confirmed Warner's passing but has reached out to his team for verification.

Warner was best known for playing the son of Bill Cosby's character in The Cosby Show sitcom from the 1980s before moving on to other TV gigs.
