Could a reconciliation between Prince Harry and King Charles III really be on the horizon? This question can't really be answered just yet, but there's a possibility that the father and son will cross paths when Harry, 40, travels to the U.K. next month for duties connected to his role as a patron for WellChild. (People hinted at a meeting between Harry and Charles in a new report published earlier this week.) Harry and Charles, 76, have been at odds since the Duke of Sussex and his wife, Meghan Markle, parted ways with the royal family in 2020 and relocated to California. Harry has made rare trips home, but the last time he crossed paths with his father was in February 2024, after Charles went public with his cancer diagnosis. "I love my family," Harry said during an appearance on Good Morning America at the time. "The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I'm grateful for that. I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could." Why King Charles May Never Reconcile With Prince Harry Amid Painful Feud During the same GMA interview, Harry hinted at "other" trips to the U.K. that he had planned. "I'll stop in and see my family as much as I can," he said at the time. It seems that never came to fruition. (A spokesperson for the duke told Us in May 2024 that they didn't meet up despite Harry's U.K. trip for the Invictus Games' 10th anniversary.) The distance between Harry and Charles continued to grow, coming to a head earlier this year. In April, Harry lost his appeal for government-funded security in the U.K. (He and Meghan lost their protection in his home country after leaving the royal family.) In a bombshell BBC interview following the lost appeal, Harry hinted that his father had some influence on the decision. "There is a lot of control and ability in my father's hands," he said in the May interview. "Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts [to] do what is necessary." Harry also claimed Charles "won't speak to me" during the same interview and called on his father to reconcile. Prince Harry and King Charles III's Ups and Downs Through the Years "I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore," he said. "Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has." The following month, it was widely reported that Harry and Charles' teams met up for a secret meeting in the U.K. Multiple outlets claimed at the time that they discussed a possible resolution in the future. Us Weekly understands that Chief Communications Officer to the Duke and Duchess Meredith Maines was in London for routine meetings with the U.K.-based communications team, media, stakeholders and senior figures connected to the Duke's patronages.
