The White House promised to ramp up the number of National Guard troops and federal agents patrolling the streets of the nation's capital. Starting Wednesday, they'll be patrolling around the clock. This comes days after President Donald Trump announced that his administration would take over Washington, D.C.'s police department for at least a month. Agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection as well as Metropolitan Police wait in a parking lot before driving along Kennedy Street NW in a caravan, in the early morning of Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, in northwest Washington.
