We in South India were absolutely blown by her rendition of Dum maro dum. That was amazing sound and vocals, nothing that we had heard before. So when we worked on the music of Rangeela (1995) we looked for a new kind of sound. And the director Ram Gopal Varma and all of us decided on the voice of Asha Bhosle. Tanha tanha was the first song we recorded. It all happened in a matter of two hours. I recall her running away from the sound booth because I used to put agarbattis and dhoop. She said that would affect her sound quality.
