As a result, Swalwell announced he would resign from Congress and apologized to his family, which only fanned the flames of the controversy. "I am deeply sorry to my family, staff and constituents for mistakes in judgment I've made in my past," Swalwell wrote in a public statement, before adding, "I will fight the serious, false allegations made against me. However, I must take responsibility for the mistakes I did make.
