Move over, Jurassic Park - nature just delivered a real-life blast from the past. A park ranger working in California's remote forests stumbled upon an enormous California giant salamander while monitoring streams in his territory in September 2025. The massive creature - with its long, thick body, rough skin and wide, flat head - looked almost prehistoric as it rested near the water's edge. And as it turns out, that description is spot-on.
