The ABC News anchor candidly shared her battle with uterine fibroids-non-cancerous tumors that appear on the uterus-explaining that she'll be away from the news desk for an extended time as she recovers from surgery. "I didn't realize what was going on," Linsey, 47 shared during the Aug 11 broadcast of ABC News Live Prime With Linsey Davis. "I run regularly so I started going out for runs and I would walk home the same route that I would easily run. And all of a sudden, I just didn't have energy anymore." "And then I just so happened to be getting a blood test," she continued, "and the doctor called me the next day and was like, 'You might need to come in for an iron infusion.'" Before the diagnosis of the fibroids-which Lupita Nyong'o recently detailed her own experience with-Linsey revealed she also experienced bloating, constant pain during her periods and exhaustion. readLupita Nyong'o Shares Uterine Fibroids DiagnosisAfter undergoing a myomectomy to remove the fibroids without interfering with her uterus, the tumors came back, leading her to take a final and more permanent approach. "It felt like the hysterectomy was just the final way," Linsey-who shares son Ayden, 9, with husband Paul Roberts-admitted. "I'm still potentially a few more years away from menopause and I just felt like I didn't want to potentially have another five, six or seven years like this."TheStewartofNY/Getty ImagesAnd while Linsey is nervous about the surgery, which will see the removal of her uterus completely, it's a decision she's happy to make. "I've never had a major surgery before," she explained. "So, hearing about potential side effects or blood clots that can happen after surgery, I feel there's some concern. But now that I've had my son and don't plan on having any other children, I guess I just want to be final and finished."She added, "It causes me enough angst and grief and planning my day differently that I really feel like I'm ready to be finished with this journey." As she signed off ahead of her surgery, Linsey emphasized the importance of sharing her personal story. "Just hearing that I'm not in it alone and that this is an experience that unfortunately too many Black women in particular endure, it is nice to see that you can get to the other side," she said.
