They all collide in Dumplin', a 2018 coming-of-age dramedy about plus-sized teenager Willowdean Dickson (Danielle McDonald) who lives in the shadow of her pageant queen mother Rosie (Jennifer Aniston). Rosie calls Willowdean "Dumplin'," a name that Willowdean hates because it feels like an attack on her weight. After the death of her beloved aunt, Willowdean decides to enter the local pageant that her mother runs. Much to her surprise, preparing for the competition leads her to self-discovery and connection. She ends up learning tips from the cast of a local Dolly Parton-themed drag show - and making new friends along the way. Intensely emotional and very funny with a killer Dolly Parton soundtrack, Dumplin' is a delightful and underrated teen movie. 'Will & Harper' (2024) Will Ferrell in a documentary? It makes more sense than you'd think. In Will & Harper, Ferrell joins his friend and former Saturday Night Live colleague Harper Steele, a transgender woman who transitioned late in life, on a cross-country road trip. Will gets to know this new version of his friend, giving us real (and sometimes uncomfortable) insight into their relationship. 3 Underrated Hulu Movies to Watch This Weekend (August 8-10) They encounter different attitudes towards trans people throughout the country, sometimes welcoming and sometimes hostile. It's a beautiful tribute to acceptance and support between friends, no matter what changes they go through.
