Speculation about trouble in their marriage had been circulating since last year, though the actress never publicly addressed it. The Bandra family court in Mumbai has now granted the couple a divorce after they filed for separation through a mutual consent petition. Reports suggest that Hansika chose not to claim any streedhan or alimony as part of the settlement. During the legal proceedings, Motwani was represented by advocate Adnan Shaikh.
