During a Thursday appearance on TODAY, the actress was asked what she could tease about the followup TV show. "Not much," she quipped, before sharing her hopes for the project as a whole. "I'm really excited about it," Silverstone said. "I think we're going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher." The Irish Blood star is set to reprise her role as the famed Cher Horowitz from the original 1995 film. Silverstone further assured that the new Peacock series will "honor" its predecessor. "I'm confident that we'll be able to do that, but we're in baby stages right now." Earlier this April, it was announced that Peacock was developing the Clueless TV series. Notably, the streamer was developing a mystery reboot show in 2020 that was ultimately shelved nine years later. The new series will not carry on the story set for the original reboot, which was set to spotlight Cher's best friend Dionne (portrayed by Stacey Dash in the film). It was originally described as "a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher's vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend?" Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Jordan Weiss serve as writers on the upcoming series while Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed Clueless, and OG producer Robert Lawrence serve as executive producers. Schwartz and Savage executive produce via their Fake Empire banner, and Silverstone also joins as an EP.
