While couple Brie and Dave Franco were promoting their horror film, Together, they appeared on the Shut Up Evan Podcast and Scream was brought up. Brie portrayed Rebecca Walters, Sidney Prescott's (Neve Campbell) assistant in the 2011 film, which was the last Scream film directed by horror legend Wes Craven, before he died in 2015. Franco noted, "I feel like with new Scream rules, even though she dies brutally, we could bring her back," to which Brie responded, "Yeah, where's my role in Scream 7?" Notably, Matthew Lillard's Stu Macher, David Arquette's Dewey Riley and Scott Foley's Roman Bridger, who all died in previous films, will return for the seventh installment. The GLOW actress then shared her "problem with the current era of the Scream franchise" is that "too many people live." She continued, "The core four needs to die! ... We should be down to two of the core four by Scream 7." Franco added that Dewey, a main character, was killed in Scream (2022), by Mikey Madison's Ghostface. Brie called his death a "mistake" and thinks they should "keep the main three," referring to Dewey, Sidney and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). Scream 7 will also see the return of Campbell's Sidney who wasn't in the last film, Scream VI. Directed by the film's original writer, Kevin Williamson, Scream 7 is slated to hit theaters on Feb. 27, 2026.
