by Mychal ThompsonBuzzFeedBuzzFeed StaffIf you must know, I based my entire personality on Seasons 2-5 of "Girls," and I'm a huge gamer. Donald Trump fired back at Robert De Niro in another social media rant, and it's a complete mess. Nurphoto / Getty Images, Anadolu / Anadolu via Getty Images You probably know by now that De Niro's been consistently outspoken against Trump since his first term. Well, in a Feb. 23 interview on The Best People with Nicole Wallace podcast, De Niro said Trump was "destroying" the United States, and urged people to "resist" the 47th president. "The story is our country, and Trump is destroying it, and who knows what his reasons are, but it's sick, it's fucked up," he told Wallace. "We have to save the country." MS NOW / Via youtu.be The 82-year-old Academy Award winner described Trump as an "enemy" of the US, and suggested "everybody has to stick together" to get the Trump administration out and get the country back on track. MS NOW / Via youtu.be De Niro moved for people to oppose Trump's administration and any of his successors. "People have to resist, resist, resist, resist, resist. That's the only way," De Niro said. "There's no magic. There's no nothing... people are not going to go away, even if Trump dies for some reason by having an illness or something. Parts of that movement are still there, and that's the scary part. It has to be neutralized by the people." MS NOW / Via youtu.be In the interview, when Nicole referenced his 1981 Academy Award acceptance speech for Raging Bull, she asked why he was always "lifting up everybody" around him, which made the Godfather Part II actor slightly emotional. "You have to," he replied. "You have to lift people. You have to bring them together. Period. You can't divide people. You can't win that way." ABC / MS NOW / Via youtu.be He continued, "It's a no-win situation, and look what we have, look who we have there, it's almost like a destiny to have this thing there, destroying... attempting to destroy this country and maybe not even understanding why. So it's up to us to protect the country." Filippo Monteforte / Getty Images Well, Trump, who had recently given the State of the Union address on Feb. 24, responded to De Niro on Truth Social in typical fashion - with no chill at all. Anadolu / Getty Images In a Feb. 25 post, Trump first mentioned Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan had strong reactions to his address to Congress. He referred to them as "mentally deranged and sick" and shockingly called for them to be "sent back to where they came." Chip Somodevilla / Getty Images Trump then suggested that Omar and Tlaib should "get on a boat with Trump Deranged Robert De Niro, another sick and demented person with, I believe, an extremely Low IQ, who has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying - some of which is seriously CRIMINAL!" Bloomberg / Bloomberg via Getty Images He continued, "When I watched him break down in tears last night, much like a child would do, I realized that he may be even sicker than Crazy Rosie O'Donnell, who is right now in Ireland trying to figure out how to come back into our beautiful United States. The only difference between De Niro and Rosie is that she is probably somewhat smarter than him, which isn't saying much." Bloomberg / Bloomberg via Getty Images While Trump's remarks about the representatives and Robert De Niro are unsurprisingly not out of character for him, it's still tough to read these social media rants from the president of the United States. However, one could argue that Trump's response only reinforces De Niro's initial statements in the interview. What are your thoughts? Share in the comments. Comments
