Loved ones of a missing 31-year-old Tennessee woman believe officers located her body in a crawl space underneath a home just days after her disappearance, police said. The discovery of a body was made at a North Jackson home on Saturday, February 21, after family members of Mirna Ortez Moncada contacted officers that day, the Jackson Police Department said in a Sunday, February 22, news release. The home is owned by a person who police described as an "acquaintance" of Moncada, who was reported missing on February 16. The acquaintance's name was not released by authorities. "Although family members have tentatively identified the body as Ms. Moncada, official confirmation is still pending," police said. "This remains an active and ongoing investigation," police added in the news release. "Investigators are currently treating the case as a suspected homicide." While officers believe that the person found dead was killed intentionally, it is currently unclear how they died, according to police, who have not specified a potential cause of death. The Jackson Police Department did not immediately respond to an inquiry and request for comment from Us Weekly on Wednesday, February 25. The home where the body was found is located in Raintree Cove, according to police. "I was shocked because this is Raintree Cove," a local resident told WREG. "We don't have any killings over here. I was just shocked." Another local resident told the TV station that "All I saw was the police officers down there in the cove, at one of the houses down there in the cove." "It appeared to be the house with the brown shutters on it," the resident, a neighbor of the home, said. "And I heard that they found a body down there in a crawlspace down there." A motive for the potential killing is unclear. In the news release, police said "To protect the integrity of the investigation, no additional details regarding the condition of the scene or potential suspects are being released at this time." The Jackson Police Department is asking anyone with information relevant to the investigation to call police at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-8477. The incident comes after another recent, gruesome discovery in Detroit, Michigan, where officers found the bodies of three men who were apparently "brutally" assaulted in the basement of a home on February 18, according to police, Us previously reported. NY Police Searching for Missing Grandma Find Another Woman's Body The men were found dead while police were responding to a missing person's report, police said. Authorities announced in an update that they have identified and arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with their deaths, WXYZ reported. The alleged suspect has not yet been publicly identified. Police also identified the men as 72-year-old William Barrett, 66-year-old Norman Hamlin, and 65-year-old Mark Barnett, according to the TV station, which reported Hamlin had lived at the home. Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said that investigators believe the suspect "has a connection" to the men.
