For weeks now, critics have been blasting Savannah Guthrie for not offering a large reward for her mother Nancy, but now it turns out that she did try - and was stopped by law enforcement! According to Fox News reporter Michael Ruiz via X (Twitter) on Tuesday, the Today Show host wanted to offer a pricey reward for information leading to the 84-year-old's return or an arrest much, much sooner than she ultimately did this week. In fact, sources with knowledge of the family said she wanted to do this "on the first day of the investigation" - that was four weeks ago! So, why'd she wait so long? The sources said of the fam: "They were advised by law enforcement to hold off as 'doing so earlier might overwhelm the infrastructure set up to field leads, tens of thousands of which have been coming in organically.' They are now offering the seven figure sum after coordinating with investigators. They are working closely with law enforcement on this." Related: FBI Worried Nancy's Disappearance Becoming A 'Cold Case' For a while, the reward money offered by the FBI stood at $100,000, and while it brought in a lot of tips, nothing turned up any real answers so far. With $1 million on the line now, it stands to reason someone out there with information will be a lot more inclined to speak up. That's a lot of money! But it makes you wonder... If Savannah and her siblings were willing to put up this reward from the start, and knowing how complicated this case has been from the beginning, why didn't they let her release it sooner?? Well, it's not just that they might've gotten too many tips to deal with at once. It's also possible that those claims might not have been as legit, and it could've clogged up their tip lines with opportunists looking for a cash grab - not unlike those ransom notes which have yet to be verified. And not to mention, if the reward started at $1 million, it's likely someone would've waited to speak up anyway because if that's the first offer, how high could the reward money go, you know? Plus, if more people start to think they can make reward money off this kind of thing then who knows what problems THAT could lead to. So, it's understandable why they held off releasing it! But was it the right call? Did they wait too long?? It's hard to know. We just hope the increased reward didn't come too late. As Savannah keeps insisting, somebody out there knows something. Let this be their reason to share what they know as we all hope for a miracle. Savannah Guthrie and her family are offering up to $1 million for information that leads to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie. NOTE: The family reward of up to $1 million will be paid only for recovery of Nancy Guthrie, consistent with FBI criteria for payment of its reward in this case: https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/kidnap/nancy-guthrie Authorities have encouraged anyone with information or tips to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI, 88-CRIME or tips.fbi.gov.
