Multiple news outlets have confirmed that Martin Short's daughter, Katherine Short, has died. She was 42. James Devaney / Getty Images Martin and his late wife Nancy Dolman, who died of ovarian cancer in 2010, adopted Katherine along with two other children, Oliver Patrick, who is 39, and Henry Hayter, 36. Robin Platzer / Getty Images On Feb. 23, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call from Katherine's Hollywood Hills home. According to People and the Los Angeles Times, officials have since ruled that Katherine died by suicide. Gregg Deguire / Getty Images Katherine's family confirmed the news of her death in a moving statement, which read, "It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world." Frank Albertson / Getty Images Katherine - who was a social worker - worked at a psychiatry-led outpatient clinic, according to People, where she provided peer support and psychotherapy. She was also involved with nonprofit organization Bring Change 2 Mind, which aims to encourage open dialogue about mental health. Wwd / Getty Images Although she mostly stayed out of the public eye, Katherine attended a few events with her dad over the years. After his wife Nancy's death, Martin spoke openly about how he and his kids coped, telling The Guardian in 2012, "It's been a tough two years for my children. [Death] is the thing of life that we live in denial about, that it will ever happen to us or our loved ones, and when it does you gain a little and you suffer a little. There's no big surprise." Amy Sussman / Getty Images The Miller High Life Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, said, "Due to unforeseen circumstances, Steve Martin & Martin Short's show, originally scheduled for Friday, February 27th in Milwaukee, has been postponed," while another appearance in Minneapolis has been postponed as well.
