Discovery. The Batman Part II will finally begin filming next year, the company said in a letter to shareholders Thursday, aiming for an Oct. 1, 2027 theatrical release. Reeves completed the script in June. His first DC film premiered to huge success in 2022, grossing over $770 million worldwide. Pattinson starred in the titular role and will return to Gotham in part two. He's been busy so far this year, shooting other tentpole features such as Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and Denis Villeneuve's Dune 3. Related Stories Business Warner Bros. Gunn's Superman hit with David Corenswet at the forefront has surpassed $500 million at the global box office. Warner Bros. continued: "DC Studio's universe of characters represents not only one of Warner Bros. Discovery's most valuable pieces of intellectual property, but one of the most valuable assets in entertainment." Gunn came to Reeves' defense last year on social media when fans were criticizing the five-year gap between The Batman and The Batman Part II. "To be fair, a 5 year gap or more is fairly common in sequels," the DC Studios co-CEO said. "7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3." "People should get off Matt's nuts because it's like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it," he continued. "That's just the way it is. He doesn't owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does." The letter also said: "The 10-year vision for the DC universe also includes an exciting array of television projects, including The Penguin, which recently garnered 24 Emmy nominations and was watched by nearly 20 million HBO Max subscribers, the upcoming new season of Peacemaker, and the debut of Lanterns in 2026." "In a precise and measured way, the DC franchise will increasingly overlay across the studio's broader efforts: from film and TV to consumer products, games, experiences and social."
