Did Nancy Guthrie's alleged captor stake out her house before the kidnapping? We're now into the fourth week of this heartbreaking case and, sadly, investigators still don't have much to go on. DNA samples have turned up little to nothing so far. Savannah and her family have announced a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to Nancy's return. The only really important evidence so far has been the doorbell footage that shows an armed, masked man outside the front door of the 84-year-old's home on the night she disappeared. And it's this footage that sources are now claiming holds a hidden clue. Related: Guthrie Siblings & Spouses Cleared Of Wrongdoing In Kidnapping Case! As Perezcious readers know, Nest surveillance video showed a man with a backpack and a gun approaching her door and using flowers to try to cover the camera. But included in that release of video and images was also a shot of an individual without a backpack standing by the front door. Along with the clothing differences, the lighting also looked a bit different from the rest of the footage. But with no time stamps and no clarity from authorities, it was hard to know what to think. Take a look - with the different image five slides in: View this post on Instagram A post shared by FBI Director Kash Patel (@fbidirectorkash) Now, several reports have come out claiming those are images from two different dates! Sources familiar with the investigation told ABC News on Monday that the image without the backpack was taken BEFORE the kidnapping - on a completely different day! OMG! It's still unclear when the outlier image was taken. The sources noted that one theory is that the person may have shown up to the home the first time and gotten spooked by the camera, only to return later and tamper with the device. If it's the same person, it suggests a lot of planning may have gone into this, Jason Pack, a former FBI agent, told ABC News: "It could indicate that the person was there surveilling the place before the abduction happened. ... The fact that there was preparation and planning, which makes it more of a sophisticated type of criminal activity than someone just showing up." This might also be why the authorities have been asking neighbors to look through their own surveillance footage dating all the way back to January 1. However, the Pima County Sheriff's Department has since hit back at this new reporting. In a new statement obtained by Us Weekly on Monday night, they said: "Suspect Image: We are aware that doorbell images released earlier in the investigation depict a suspect in different stages of attire, including with and without a backpack. There is no date or time stamp associated with these images. Therefore, any suggestion that the photographs were taken on different days is purely speculative." They noted this remains an "active and ongoing criminal investigation," adding: "As with any investigation, conclusions will be guided by verifiable evidence and established facts. Speculation, without factual support, does not advance the investigative process." Hmm. What do U think? Is this a theory that should be explored?
