by Ellen DurneyBuzzFeedBuzzFeed StaffHi, I'm Ellen! On the afternoon of December 14, 2025, Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Los Angeles home, having both suffered apparent stab wounds. Eric Charbonneau / Getty Images Rob and Michele - who were aged 78 and 68, respectively - shared three children together: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Within a matter of hours after the bodies were discovered, Nick, their 32-year-old son, was arrested on suspicion of killing his parents. Michael Buckner / Getty Images This photo of the family was taken in September 2025. Nick is standing in the middle, with his sister Romy, 28, on the left. Jake, 34, is on the far right. As you may know, Nick has talked openly in the past about his struggles with addiction after first going to rehab around the time of his 15th birthday. In 2016, Nick and his dad notably collaborated on the movie Being Charlie, which was inspired by Nick's experience with addiction. Laura Cavanaugh / Getty Images According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, prosecutors believe that Nick fatally stabbed Rob and Michele in the early hours of the morning on Dec. 14 before fleeing the property. The night that the killings purportedly took place, Rob, Michele, and Nick all attended Conan O'Brien's holiday party, where Rob and his son allegedly engaged in a "very loud argument." Michael Buckner / Getty Images TMZ was the first to report this claim, which multiple sources later corroborated to People and The Hollywood Reporter. Discussing the murders for the first time during an interview with the New Yorker this month, Conan recalled Rob and Michele leaving the party that night, saying: "To have that experience of saying good night to somebody and having them leave and then find out the next day that they're gone...I think I was in shock for quite a while afterward." John Nacion / Getty Images Since his arrest, Nick has remained in custody without bail, which brings us to yesterday, when he appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court, facing two counts of first-degree murder, with special circumstances, including the use of a knife. Pool / Getty Images Appearing in front of Judge Theresa McGonigle alongside his public defender, Kimberly Greene, Nick pleaded not guilty during his arraignment. If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole, or the death penalty. At the arraignment, prosecutors said that they're still awaiting Rob and Michele's completed autopsies. Nick will next appear in court on April 29. Pool / Getty Images Nick's siblings, Romy and Jake, issued a statement in December acknowledging the "horrific and devastating" loss of their parents, saying: "Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day." They did not reference Nick, but did ask for "respect and privacy" and "for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity."
