Former Bachelor Ben Higgins and his wife, Jessica Clarke, have opted against giving their 12-month-old daughter any sugar for another year. "Jessica's very, like, stringent on some things," Higgins, 36, said on the Wednesday, February 18, episode of his "Almost Famous" podcast, revealing Clarke, 30, recently made daughter Winnie a sugar-free cake for her first birthday. "She doesn't want Winnie having sugar until 2 years old." Higgins' cohost, Ashley Iaconetti, subsequently questioned whether the couple's plan will go out the window by the time they have two children. (Iaconetti, 37, shares two sons with her husband, Jared Haibon.) "It's a very important thing for Jess, and I think it will stick because Jess has this history of her relationship with food," Higgins said, debunking Iaconetti's theory. "She actually gets on me, like, even with Winnie being 1 [about] what I say about food, the language I use about food, what kind of food Winnie eats and doesn't eat, like the diet she has, the recipes she's making." Former Bachelor Ben Higgins and Pregnant Jess Clarke's Relationship Timeline Higgins further guessed that Clarke's nutritional goals for Winnie "will stick." "A lot of things will get different with the second [child]," he said. "I do think food and Jess' desire to give Winona high-quality food that is healthy for her will stick for every child based on my wife's past." While Higgins didn't further elaborate on his wife's history with food, he explained that she's "intentional" about what their family eats. "Jessica [is] more than me, but I would like to think I care too. I just am not as focused on it or as intentional about it. [She] is just so passionate about giving Winnie good, clean products," Higgins said. "It's so foreign to me because I didn't grow up [focused on it]. I don't think in our childhood people were super concerned about what was being put in our bodies. I think it was like, 'Just eat it and be happy and you stop crying.' And now, there is such a focus on good, healthy, clean products for infants, which makes so much sense and it's so amazing that it's right there in front of you." What Ben Higgins Hopes Daughter Winnie Thinks of His 'Bachelor' Experience Higgins and Clarke have been married since November 2021, welcoming Winnie in February 2025. They started exposing her to solid foods when she was 6 months old during a family trip to Italy. "We started to [introduce] good cuts of meat that she could, like, suck on," Higgins explained. "When we were in Italy, we let Winnie suck on a hard pizza crust and she loved it. We would take it from her when it got soft, but I think that would be the first, like, sensation of solids that she had." Now, Higgins says that his daughter "eats like crazy." "I mean, she is a fiend when it comes to food," he gushed. "She loves the food, and here's the cute part. [When] she takes a bite of something and if she likes it, which I haven't known her not to like something yet, she goes, 'Mmm.' She hasn't been taught this [and] it hasn't been put in her head by a [TV] commercial. It's a natural reaction just, like, when she sees something cool, she goes, 'Whoa.'"
