Summer House's Ciara Miller opened up about her relationship with nursing. Miller, 30, got candid about what led her to take a step back from nursing during a Wednesday, February 18, episode of Taylor Lautner and wife Tay Lautner's "The Squeeze" podcast. "On a more serious note, I wanna talk about your nursing background," Tay, 28, said to Miller, noting that she was also a former nurse. Miller explained that she's been a nurse for nearly "10 years" now and started in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Ciara Miller Almost Left 'Summer House' After Filming 1st Week Without Paige "All my teachers were like, 'You're not gonna be able to start in the ICU.' And I was like, 'OK, watch me,'" she recalled. Miller also shared that she was drawn to the fast-paced environment of the ICU and wanted to "make a difference." When asked about Miller's experience with "burnout," the Bravo star replied, "I was only, like, a year and a half in. I feel like by the end of COVID, I was so burnt out." She added, "Even though I was travel nursing, like, I worked at this one hospital in New York and we were brought in as relief nurses because the staff nurses hadn't had a break. It was an awful scenario but also, to an extent, we're conditioned to deal with death. COVID took it up like, 10 notches." Miller then decided to "take a break" from nursing and film her first season of Summer House in 2020. She returned to nursing when she finished wrapping season 5, but "shortly after took two years off." "Stepping back into the unit after being away, I was like, 'This is not what I remember.' Seeing people die ... wow, so emotionally taxing." She then detailed one of her patients dying during her orientation, saying that it was a "gruesome death." "I was like, 'This is so nuts.' And now I'm gonna go fly back to New York and go film this show as if nothing happened." At that moment, she felt like she was "done with bedside" care. "I think there's a purpose for me outside of bedside, still in the nursing world. I still love the education and everything." Elsewhere in the episode, Miller opened up about bonding with families in the ICU. "When the families are great, you really want to help and make a difference," she gushed. "They always say the ICU is the last place you go before the morgue, or you get downgraded. I always felt like [that] was super important." Miller previously opened up about taking a step back from her profession during a February 2025 interview with The Daily Dish. 'Summer House' Cast Says Season 10 May Just Be the Best Yet "I was PRN all last year," she said. "This year, I think I'm taking a step back again, because nursing is - we have a love-hate relationship." Miller added, "It's a lot." She also noted that she was working "three shifts every six to eight weeks." While she was taking a step back, Miller confessed that she found it hard to "detach" from nursing completely. "I can't detach myself from nursing right now," she said. "What am I gonna do that feels as fulfilling as critical care? You know? What's on the other side?"
