Nancy Guthrie's abductor disclosed three major clues that he committed an "unsophisticated" crime, involving his weapon, the gloves and his disguise, according to a crime expert. "You have what appeared to be a semi-automatic gun and a revolver case, and then it appeared to be dangling where no shooter would really carry the gun, right in front of your private parts," Troy Hillman, a retired cold case homicide sergeant with Phoenix Police Department, exclusively told Us Weekly about the perpetrator's weapon seen on the 84-year-old's Nest camera from the morning of her February 1 disappearance. "For somebody that has practically gotten away with this for 17 days or 18 days, the sequence is just very, very odd," he explained, noting that the "big and heavy" gloves the perpetrator wore also left him scratching his head. (In the video, an armed masked man wearing what appeared to be ski gloves approached Nancy's front door in Tucson, Arizona, before covering the camera.) "It's not like we live in a ski community," Hillman - who is the author of Chasing Down the Zombie Hunter and not involved in Nancy's missing person investigation - added. "And then, the fact that they're wearing those and they've got a gun. You could potentially get shot going into somebody's home in the middle of the night. So to me, you want to have tactical gloves and/or no gloves, so you wouldn't wear these big puffy things." FBI The cold case expert also shared that his experience on the force taught him what to do in a dangerous situation, which sent his spidey-senses tingling when he saw Nancy's Nest footage. "I just know from shooting my whole career that there are tactical gloves you wear, and then those big puffy things, you'd have to take them off," Hillman told Us. "You're more than likely to get either shot at or hurt going into somebody's house in the middle of the night, so you want to be tactically prepared." The other clues that left Hillman feeling like the perpetrator was "unsophisticated" were his visible facial hair in the footage and his unpreparedness as he approached the camera. "If you're wearing a mustache, you think you'd check yourself in the mirror," he said. "And the odd behavior of trying to cover the camera with his big glove, and then the odd behavior of him going to the plant. What was he gonna do with the plant?" Former Sergeant Breaks Down 'Best-Case Scenario' in Nancy Guthrie Case Hillman called Nancy's disappearance "one of the most bizarre missing persons investigations I've ever seen." Nancy - who is Today show cohost Savannah Guthrie's mother - was last seen alive on January 31 after having dinner with family members. Her loved ones called the police on February 1 after a friend notified them that Nancy had not shown up to watch a virtual church service. As the investigation approaches its third week, police have yet to officially identify a suspect or person of interest behind her disappearance. Savannah has issued several emotional pleas for her mom's safe return. Retired Phoenix Sergeant Breaks Down New Photo Clues in Nancy Guthrie Case On February 15, Savannah returned to Instagram and shared an emotional plea to whoever is responsible for Nancy's disappearance. "I just wanted to come on and say that we still have hope," she said via social media on February 15. "We still believe, and I wanted to say to whoever has her, or knows where she is, that it's never too late and you're not lost or alone. It is never too late to do the right thing and we are here. We believe. We believe in the essential goodness [of] every human being, and it's never too late."
