A woman in Coleman, Michigan, has pleaded guilty and no contest to felonies in she was charged with after a 4-year-old boy used her fentanyl, and had to be revived with Narcan twice after his heart stopped. Chelsea Ross pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and second-degree child abuse when she appeared in front of Midland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Beale on Tuesday, February 17, according to Midland Daily News. Ross, 32, also pleaded no contest to a tampering with evidence charge. As part of her plea deal, a felony of possession of a controlled substance charge was dropped. "The tampering charge stemmed from [Ross's] admission to law enforcement that she 'cleaned' up the house because she knew law enforcement would be on their way," said Assistant Midland County Prosecutor Courtney Driscoll, per the outlet. Cops Claim Rosie O'Donnell's Daughter Was 'Actively Using' Meth Pre-Arrest Driscoll said that Ross admitted to licking a sports drink bottle cap, which was where the child found the drugs and ultimately consumed them. Additionally, Ross said she hid needles and cleaned up meth and other narcotics around the house in an attempt to cover up the incident. "This was done while the victim was being transported by EMS to the ER/while life saving measures were being performed on the child," Driscoll said. It was also reported that Ross allegedly stashed some of her drugs at a local laundromat. Ross attended the hearing on February 17 via Zoom from TriCap's drug treatment program, which she has since completed. Following the hearing, Midland Daily News reported that Ross was expected to go to the Midland County Jail and post a $50,000 bond. It appears her bail has been posted, as she is not listed on the jail's roster as of Wednesday, February 18. Ross is scheduled to attend a sentencing hearing on May 14. She is currently facing between three to 15 years in prison. Driscoll said during the recent hearing that she believes Ross is a danger to society. "A 4-year-old little boy almost lost his life, had to be given Narcan twice due to consuming defendant's fentanyl from a bottle," Driscoll told the court, per the outlet. "A direct result of her actions and decisions. She is very lucky nobody at the public laundry mat was exposed to her stash of fentanyl. Mother Caused 1-Year-Old Child to Overdose by Keeping Drugs in Motel Room "She admits this was not the first close call with those young children being exposed to narcotics," Driscoll continued. "The defendant admitted to just returning home from the methadone clinic the same day this incident occurred. She immediately used after receiving treatment." Ross was arrested alongside the child's father, Benjamin Benchley, on May 7, 2025. Benchley was charged with possession of methamphetamine, two counts of felony firearm, receiving and concealing weapons and third-degree child abuse, according to the outlet. Benchley ultimately accepted a plea bargain, in which he agreed to testify against Ross if necessary. In December 2025, he was sentenced to complete two years' Recovery Court probation in connection with the third-degree child neglect charge. Additionally, he was also sentenced to serve 77 days in jail with 77 served.
