Former Disney Channel child star Christy Carlson Romano is seemingly no longer keeping up with her former TV brother Shia LaBeouf in light of his recent arrest. "When they ask you about your old costar, but you've stopped 'inserting yourself,'" Romano, 41, wrote over an Instagram video shared Wednesday, February 18. In the footage, Romano sat at a table and lip-synched the phrase, "I'm not involved. You made that very clear." Romano also stated in her social media caption that she has "bigger [fish] to fry," presumably referring to her recent cancer scare. 'Even Stevens' Cast: Where Are They Now? Shia LaBeouf, Christy Carlson Romano While Romano did not name the former costar she no longer speaks about in her social media upload, LaBeouf, 39, made headlines several hours earlier. News broke on Tuesday, February 17, that the actor was arrested in New Orleans for two counts of battery. The NOPD confirmed to Us Weekly that LaBeouf was "reportedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive" at a local restaurant. LaBeouf allegedly "struck" an unidentified victim multiple times after being escorted out of the venue. LaBeouf appeared in court later on Tuesday and has another pretrial hearing scheduled for Thursday, March 19. "Free me," LaBeouf wrote via X on Wednesday, breaking his silence after his arrest. LaBeouf rose to fame playing Louis Stevens on Disney Channel's Even Stevens from 2000 to 2003. Romano, for her part, famously portrayed Louis' older sister, Ren Stevens. (Ren and Louis also had an older brother named Donny, played by Nick Spano.) Nick Spano, Tom Virtue, Shia LaBeouf, Donna Pescow and Christy Romano on 'Even Stevens.' Disney Channel/ Everett Collection In the years since Even Stevens wrapped, LaBeouf and Romano went their separate ways. "I've definitely traded social comments with him online," Romano told Us Weekly and other reporters in 2018 about where she stood with LaBeouf. "He's really hard to track down. I think, like, sometimes he'll emerge from his artistic state and want to connect with people from his past. We were gonna do a reunion, and I think he was only in town for a certain amount of time, but I was filming a movie in Florida, and this was in July. So we keep missing each other, but we always wish each other the best." Three years later, Romano revealed that it had been two decades since she last reunited with LaBeouf. "We were these young kids put in this very unique situation. We had very raw talent," Romano recalled of their onscreen bond in an August 2021 video shared via her YouTube channel. "He had a knack for comedy, and my comedy was a lot more of a straight man. And so, we were like an instant comedic team." The Cast of 'Holes': Where Are They Now? Shia LaBeouf and More According to Romano, she and LaBeouf eventually drifted apart. "When I look back, I just feel stupid. I know I'm not stupid because I care, and I think I did care even then. I think that's why we had a little bit of animosity," Romano explained. "I know that he cares a lot about that time frame. Not only because of a movie that he did and exposing all that stuff that was going on behind the scenes, but also because when he did the performance art piece, he had such love in his face when he watched Even Stevens and he was smiling." She continued, "The only thing that I can say is that I really do kind of wish at the time when I was younger I would have given him a little more time and energy and love, like a real sister. I really do regret that. It kind of makes me sad."
