Last week, dancer Allison Holker got engaged to her boyfriend, Adam Edmunds, after more than a year of dating. Paul Archuleta / Getty Images Allison first went public with her relationship with Adam, a tech entrepreneur, in September 2024 - nearly two years after the death of her husband, Stephen "tWitch" Boss. Allison has described him as a "magical person" who helped her rebuild after losing Stephen, who died by suicide in December 2022. Robin L Marshall / Getty Images She told People, "He really helped me find myself again. He really saw so much in me and helped me see it again, and he's just been so supportive to me. He's been supportive to my children," she said, referring to her kids, Weslie, 17, Maddox, 9, and Zaia, 6, whom she shared with Stephen. Frederic J. Deadline / Getty Images On Feb. 12, Allison revealed she and Adam had gotten engaged. Taking to Instagram, she posted a series of romantic photos from the proposal - which happened during her surprise birthday party - and wrote in part, "We're ENGAGED! It was the most romantic night of my life! I am so in love with you Adam. Baby, I am forever grateful for you and the impact you have had in my life and my kids lives. I am a better person because of you. You helped me find me again and showed me how to love. Every morning I wake up I feel safe knowing you are. My person at my side. You and your kids coming into our lives has been the biggest blessing." @allisonholker / Via Instagram: @https://www.instagram.com/allisonholker/p/DJAAS90vygK/?hl=en&img_index=2 But when Allison shared the news, it was met with criticism from readers, many of whom felt that she had moved on too quickly. Paul Archuleta / Getty Images One commenter wrote, "I know she has to move on but she moved on fairly quickly after Twitches passing." Another called the engagement "so weird.""RIP Twitch!!!" one person said as another called Allison's post "gross.""I'm happy if she is but it doesn't need to be this over the top," the person continued. "Respect the first husband and just say you found love again. This need to verbally vomit your love on Rodeo drive is a bit much." Others specifically took issue with Allison calling the engagement "the most romantic night of [her] life," given her past with Stephen. Nbc / Getty Images "I don't think the problem is her finding love again," one person wrote. "I think the problem is her starting the post 'most romantic night of my life'...... I think anyone can read between the lines and find the subtle shade thrown at Twitch. 'One of' the most romantic nights of my life probably would have received less backlash. We all remember twitch and I don't think there's anything wrong with honoring that love respectfully as she explores new love."Another agreed, writing, "Saying its the most romantic night of your life is a put down to Twitch!""This woman was married before and this was the best night of her life," one more commented. "No I'm not happy for yall." In response, Allison subtly replied in the comments. Momodu Mansaray / Getty Images "The comments on this post are exactly why widows are scared to share about their next chapter. May the people judging this post never actually have to navigate the grief of losing your spouse and then the grief of everyone judging you for having the audacity to love again," one fan wrote - which Allison liked and responded to with two heart emojis. @allisonholker / Via Instagram: @https://www.instagram.com/allisonholker/p/DUrTd-gkjyF/?hl=en She also liked a comment that partly read, "It's hard for me to understand the negative comments about this young, beautiful, intelligent woman choosing to marry again. She lived out the chapter of her previous marriage with love and commitment until the very end. That chapter closed. The book ended. She will always carry a special place in her heart for him - but life continues. Once her former spouse passed, she was free to move forward whenever she felt ready. Grief and love can coexist with new beginnings." @allisonholker / Via Instagram: @https://www.instagram.com/allisonholker/p/DUrTd-gkjyF/?hl=en When another fan commented, "What is meant for you, will be," Allison responded with more red heart emojis. @allisonholker / Via Instagram: @https://www.instagram.com/allisonholker/p/DUrTd-gkjyF/?hl=en You can view her full engagement post here and other images from the romantic evening here.
