by Jada GomezBuzzFeedBuzzFeed StaffI'm the Managing Editor of Streaming at BuzzFeed. A new trailer for The Gates featuring James Van Der Beek has surfaced exactly one week after the late actor's death. Lionsgate And while fans have been honoring his career by remembering his most memorable, oft-wholesome moments on Dawson's Creek, the late actor has left us with a role that is absolutely nothing like vintage Dawson Leery. Lionsgate In the trailer for The Gates, James appears as an evil pastor who's absolutely unforgiving to anyone who crosses him. He terrorizes three partygoers - Mason Gooding, Algee Smith, and Keith Powers - who inadvertently wander onto his property because of a wrong turn, and witness him right smack in the middle of a crime. Lionsgate From there, it's on. We hear a bloodied, gun-toting James Van Der Beek declare: "Inside these gates, I'm a god." The man's not messing around. Lionsgate As a James Van Der Beek fan who made Dawson's Creek my life's crucial business on Wednesday nights, I'm thrilled to see him in a role that is such a sharp, dark departure from what he's known for. The Gates gives us an idea of the variety of projects he may have wanted to pursue post-illness. And that's something to celebrate. Lionsgate The trailer instantly got the people talking: "God my heart... he left us with a scary movie. I love him so much. Rip The Beek" @shboogies / Via x.com "JVDB went out like a true villain in this movie Rest in Peace" @Marcuscox5 / Via x.com "Damn Dawson Leery is a bad man. RIP to a good one." @Desertcanuck / Via x.com The Gates will be in theaters on March 13, and you can check out the trailer here: View this video on YouTube Lionsgate / Via youtube.com Will you be seated for James Van Der Beek's posthumous film?
