Ohhhh, Hilary Duff is NOT holding back this era! The former Disney darling turned grown-and-glowing pop momma is stepping into her truth in a major way as she gears up to drop her new album, Luck... Or Something, and let's just say the tea is PIPING hot. In a brand-new cover interview with Glamour published on Tuesday, the 38-year-old star all but confirmed what fans have been whispering for weeks: that yes, some of this new music is about her family. And yes, it's complicated. Related: Ashley Tisdale Takes Another Dig At Hilary Duff! While chatting about why she chose to dig into such personal territory at this stage in her career, Hilary made it clear that she's done sugarcoating her life for public consumption. She's choosing real over polished, even when it's uncomfortable - and yes, that evidently includes her apparent estrangement from sis Haylie. Hilary said: "That's my family. Those are the people that affect you the most, take up the most space naturally as a human who's born into something. Just because you're born into a family doesn't mean that it always stays together. You can only control your side and your street." Wow. That is pointed! Hilary also seemed to reference her parents while discussing another track, The Optimist, which reportedly mentions her dad. Reflecting on her upbringing and why she's opening up now, she explained: "I've had a very complicated life, and my parents had a very complicated thing. I know it's not rare, and I think it goes back to the theme of, 'Why share now?' I guess I just felt ready." Ready, indeed. Of course, the song that has fans spiraling the hardest is We Don't Talk, which many believe is about her estrangement from Haylie. The sisters, once inseparable and constantly photographed together, haven't been seen publicly side-by-side since 2019. And after Hilary performed the track during her Small Rooms, Big Nerves tour ahead of the album's release later this week, speculation hit overdrive, because the lyrics are... telling: "Don't know when it happened / Not even sure what it was about / 'Cause we come from the same home, same blood." Oof. Before the chorus, she adds: "People ask me how you're doing / I wanna say amazing, but the truth is that I don't know / What I always end up saying is how..." And then comes the gut punch of a hook: "We don't talk, we don't talk about it / We don't talk about anything anymore." If that doesn't scream fractured sibling relationship, what does? The second verse only fuels the fire, hinting at possible rivalry or jealousy: "And if it's 'cause you're jealous / God knows I would sell it all, then break you off the bigger half." And later, she practically pleads for reconciliation: "Let's have it out / I'll hear you out, you'll hear me out on the couch / Get back to how we were as kids / Let's break it down / So sick of being so sad about / How we don't talk and you won't talk about it." It's emotional. It's raw. And it feels deeply personal. Still, Hilary hasn't directly confirmed the song is about Haylie. Instead, she's letting the music speak for itself. Strategic? Maybe. Honest? Absolutely. Related: Hilary Duff's Husband BLASTED For 'Attacking' Ashley Tisdale Amid Mom Group Drama And that's not the only eyebrow-raising track on the album. Another song, Mature, appears to revisit a brief relationship she had with an older man when she was younger. Without naming names, Hilary acknowledged that fans are speculating, but she's not convinced they've figured it out: "It's definitely about a relationship that I had. It was very brief with someone older than me, and that was not illegal, but inappropriate when you have this much time removed from it. Everybody speculates, but I'm not sure they got it right. ... I think that it's super nuanced and it's hard to defend certain things that have happened in my life. But the one thing that I'll say is, working as an adult since I was 10 years old, it's very hard to have relationships with people your own age." For context, Hilary famously dated Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden from 2004 to 2006, beginning when she was 16 and he was 25. But she's not confirming or denying anything specific. In fact, when pressed by the mag on whether she'd ever reveal who the song is about, she shut it down with a single, icy line: "If I wanted to say who, I would." Mic drop. Thus, between family feuds, complicated romances, and revisiting her childhood fame through an adult lens, Luck... Or Something is shaping up to be Hilary's most revealing album yet. One thing's for sure: she's not the sweet, silent teen queen anymore. She's grown, she's reflective, and she's ready to say just enough to keep us guessing. And we will absolutely be listening.
