Stephen Colbert is back to feuding with his network! On Monday's episode of The Late Show, the comedian revealed CBS refused to let him air his interview with Texas State Representative James Talarico, as originally planned, because of FCC Chairman Brendan Carr! Stephen announced at the top of the show: "You know who is not one of my guests tonight? That's Texas State Representative James Talarico. [James] was supposed to be here, but we were told in no uncertain terms by our network's lawyers, who called us directly, that we could not have him on the broadcast. Then, I was told, in some uncertain terms, that not only could I not have him on, I could not mention me not having him on. And because my network clearly does not want us to talk about this ... let's talk about this." The host explained that CBS was scrapping the interview with the Democrat, who is currently running for the US Senate in Texas, because of new guidance from Carr. You see, the FCC has a rule that broadcasters have to provide equal time to each political candidate running for office during an election period, but there's usually been an exception for news and talk show interviews. And, technically, that exception still stands, but Carr's been talking about how he wants to do away with it, and it's that alone that's got CBS so nervous! Colbert blasted the ruling: "Well, FCC you. Let's call this what it is: Donald Trump's administration wants to silence anyone who says anything bad about Trump on TV because all Trump does is watch TV. He's like a toddler with too much screen time." Stephen pointed out that he and his pal Jimmy Kimmel, who faced a suspension last year, have been the most affected by the FCC's rules (and Trump's wrath) these days. Referencing Carr's advice to the comedians to take their entertainment to a podcast or streamer - anywhere but broadcast media - Colbert said he "decided to take Brendan Carr's advice" and interviewed the politician on his YouTube channel, saying: "The network says I can't give you a URL or a QR code, but I promise you, if you go to our YouTube page, you [will] find it." And it is! Take a look: As for why Trump and the FCC are stirring up so much controversy around his media appearances, James predicted: "I think that Donald Trump is worried that we're about to flip Texas." Stephen said he wouldn't be holding out during his last few months on the air, and he means it! Also... when will Trump learn that these antics only bring more attention to the people he's (allegedly) trying to silence?? Reactions, Perezcious readers? Sound OFF (below)!
