Well, this is an inneresting turn of events! On Monday, the Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos vehemently denied that any of the Guthrie family members had anything to do with Nancy Guthrie's disappearance! Ever since reports surfaced that Annie's husband Tommaso Cioni could allegedly be a "prime suspect," Nanos has been shutting down the theory, arguing it's cruel to the family who have been cooperative. But even still, he's suddenly changing his tune! In a statement posted to X (Twitter) on Monday afternoon, the Sheriff said: "To be clear... the Guthrie family - to include all siblings and spouses - has been cleared as possible suspects in this case. The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case. To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel. The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple... please, I'm begging you the media to honor your profession and report with some sense of compassion and professionalism." WOW!!! See the statement: A statement from Sheriff Chris Nanos on the Nancy Guthrie Investigation: pic.twitter.com/YfhQSPkrFJ - Pima County Sheriff's Department (@PimaSheriff) February 16, 2026 This comes hours after his interview with DailyMail.com was published, in which Chris said one reason he might be so sensitive to the allegations surrounding Tommaso is because he lost his own brother the day after Nancy went missing. He said: "People out there can get pretty ugly and mean and nasty and not have the facts. I tell my journalists, you guys need to be a little more responsible... because that's just really nasty stuff." But he also made it seem like the family hadn't been cleared yet, adding: "But I've really told people, this is a lot of stress. If he [Tommaso Cioni] is guilty, if he's the one who did it, and we're able to prove that, then at that time jump on it but don't come out of nowhere with this. [...] I understand the pundits are out there. They're gonna say, well, he's the last one to see her alive. We understand that stuff. But, my goodness, you're putting a mark on somebody who could be completely innocent. And more important than that, he's family." So, yeah, quite a different tone! But it's clear Nanos just wants the speculation to stop for now! And we get it. If these allegations aren't true, they're very damaging! The family is going through enough as it is! Thoughts??
