Seton Hall University baseball player Justin Ford is recuperating after sustaining a brutal ankle injury during a recent game. "Thank you for all the love and prayers," Ford captioned a Saturday, February 14, post on his Instagram Stories. "Be back soon!" In the pic, Ford was seen lying in a hospital bed and flashing two thumbs-up to the camera. Ford suffered a gruesome ankle injury while playing in the team's matchup at the Puerto Rico Challenge on Friday, February 13. "Please join us in sending Justin best wishes and a speedy recovery." While Ford appeared to make his way toward first base, his ankle seemingly folded beneath him. Ford was subsequently spotted laying on the diamond. Many social media users hoped Ford was able to swiftly recover. "I'm so sick for that poor kid. What a freak disaster. Prayers for that kid man," one X user wrote, with another adding, "Prayers for a speedy recovery." A third fan, meanwhile, chimed in, "Stay strong - you're young and because baseball is in your DNA. You'll come back next year with fire in your eyes and will have a fantastic season!" Ford's game aired on Victory+, in which the broadcast showed slow-motion footage of his ankle bending in seemingly unnatural ways. Please stop quote-tweeting it, thanks," a fourth X user wrote on Friday as another replied, "Oh, mercy. That poor young man from Seton Hall." Sports medicine doctor Brian Sutterer, for his part, claimed that Ford's injury was highly unusual. "One of the most unusual sports injuries I've ever seen," Sutterer, who has no affiliation with Ford's medical team or is privy to his medical information, alleged in a YouTube video recapping the injury. "What we saw happen here with Justin Ford ... is a very, very unusual injury at such a low force and an atypical mechanism." He continued, "We don't see any obvious evidence of an open or a compound fracture, but that's actually a concern here. This reminds me of what we saw happen with Kevin Ware back with Louisville ... where his bone was exposed and everyone on TV could see it." (The athlete has not disclosed his diagnosis at the time of publication.) Ford played 17 games with Seton Hall last season, recording 14 hits and seven RBI with a .171 batting average. He previously played baseball at Roxbury High School in New Jersey, where he was selected to the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference First Team in both 2022 and 2023. Upon his high school graduation, Ford enrolled at Seton Hall University and planned to continue playing collegiate baseball. "Couldn't be more excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Seton Hall University," Ford wrote via Instagram in July 2022, signing to the team.
