A father in Utah allegedly waterboarded his teenage daughter because her bedroom wasn't "spotless to his expectations," according to reports. David Nephi Johnson - who is the chairman of the Wasatch County Republican Party - has been accused of aggravated child abuse, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit viewed by Law&Crime. Officers with the Heber City Police Department became aware of the situation when they received a report about child abuse, in which a teenage girl "did not feel safe in her home and expressed fear for her life." The girl then spoke to the deputies, who claimed that her father, Johnson, had "waterboarded her" about one week earlier. She became "visibly emotional and began crying" during the interview, according to the affidavit. The girl said that the incident took place when she returned home after hanging out with her friends. She explained that her father was upset because she "didn't completely clean her room, and she went out without having it to be spotless to his expectations." She went on to claim that Johnson grabbed her by the back of the neck and pulled her to the bathroom. He then allegedly dunked her in a sink full of water before he pulled her out, splashed water on her face and dunked her head into the water again. Additionally, she said that she felt like she was drowning. After the alleged waterboarding took place, the girl claimed that her father ordered her to clean her room. Investigators then asked how she felt after the incident, and she said, "I kind of felt sick afterwards. Like I couldn't breathe. So, it made my stomach feel a little sick." The victim also claimed that Johnson did the same thing to her now-8-year-old brother a few years earlier, while she also said her father backhanded her in the stomach "because she wasn't compliant." She added that after hitting her, "He made fun of me for crying." After the girl completed her interview, she was removed from the home and was placed in the custody of an adult sibling. Meanwhile, her two younger siblings are still in the care of Johnson and his wife. Police believe that the abuse has been "ongoing" throughout the children's lives, though they were "too fearful to report it." Additionally, authorities said that Johnson "poses a substantial threat to the two younger children," according to the affidavit. The Wasatch County Police Department did not immediately respond to Us Weekly's request for comment. Johnson currently serves as the chair of the Wasatch County Republican Party. In light of the allegations, the vice president is taking over the organization as the legal process plays out. "The safety and well-being of children are of paramount importance to our party and our community," the Wasatch County GOP said in a statement. "We are deeply troubled by the nature of the allegations brought forward by the Heber City Police Department."
