[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content] A 44-year-old woman is dead, a family is shattered, and the details coming out of Wisconsin are as heartbreaking as they are horrifying. According to police, 39-year-old Mile Dukic was arrested on February 5 after officers responded to the apartment he shared with Amanda Varisco in Milwaukee. And what they walked into was a nightmare. Varisco was found on the floor, unconscious and not breathing. An officer reportedly attempted CPR on her, but it was already too late. She had suffered multiple stab wounds and could not be saved. And in a moment that feels almost surreal in its cruelty, he reportedly told the responding officer: "I didn't want to do it." Those words hang heavy, because what investigators say happened next - and what allegedly happened before police even got there - as almost too much to process. According to the criminal complaint, Varisco's daughter and her boyfriend had already been desperately trying to get into the apartment before officers arrived. Why? Because the daughter had received chilling texts from Dukic himself. In those messages, he allegedly confessed to killing her mother. Let that sink in. A daughter receiving a text message saying her mom is dead - from the man who allegedly did it. Police say Dukic claimed in the messages that Varisco had been on the phone with another man and that it sparked jealousy and rage. He allegedly wrote: "She was disrespectful and mean." Investigators say Dukic was upset because Varisco was speaking with another "dude" and allegedly told him to "[shut] the f**k up" while she was on the phone. He reportedly didn't want her to leave the apartment to see the other man, and what followed was an argument that spiraled into violence. The most haunting message of all may have been the one Dukic allegedly sent to her daughter: "I think she [is] dead." Imagine receiving that text. The daughter and her boyfriend immediately called 911 and rushed over to the apartment. But when the boyfriend tried to get Dukic to open the door, he allegedly refused and said he wasn't letting them in, insisting that she was already gone. When detectives later questioned Dukic, he reportedly described the relationship as not romantic, saying they were "friends with benefits" who occasionally had sex. But that night, he admitted he didn't want her to leave. Police told local news outlets in Wisconsin that he told detectives that he punched Varisco with a closed fist during the argument, knocking her to the ground. He allegedly continued hitting her until she appeared unconscious. And then, in a chilling escalation, he told investigators he allegedly grabbed a knife and began stabbing her in the chest and torso. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner later determined that Varisco had been stabbed 22 times in the chest. There were also defensive wounds on her hands and arms, indicating she tried to fight back. Dukic has since been charged with first-degree intentional homicide, along with two counts of bail jumping. He is currently being held at the Milwaukee County Jail. He appeared in court on Tuesday, though Us Weekly reports that it is unclear whether he has entered a plea or secured legal representation. What makes this even more troubling, per that outlet, is that Dukic reportedly had prior felony charges, including stalking. Those cases are still open. He had been released from custody on the condition that he would not commit any other crimes.
