A man who was once named to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list has been captured 25 years after he allegedly raped and murdered a 5-year-old girl in Philadelphia. Kash Patel, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, announced via X on Thursday, February 12, that officials apprehended fugitive Alexis Flores in Honduras for his suspected role in the death of little I'riana DeJesus in 2000. "After more than 25 years on the run, this arrest proves time and distance do not shield violent offenders from justice," Patel wrote. "Thanks to our FBI teams and international partners, a fugitive accused of a horrific crime against a child is in custody and on a path back to the U.S." The caption concluded, "We will never stop pursuing those who harm our most vulnerable." DeJesus was first reported missing in late July 2000. She was later found dead in early August 2000 inside an apartment building just a few blocks away from where she lived in Philadelphia. She appeared to be strangled to death when her body was discovered. The young girl was last seen with a "a Hispanic male who allegedly told people he was from Honduras and was seeking work and a place to stay," according to the FBI. Man on FBI's 10 Most Wanted List, Accused of Killing Ex-GF, Is Captured Flores was identified as a suspect when it was discovered that his DNA matched evidence found at the Philadelphia crime scene. In light of the connection, he was added to the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" list in 2007. The FBI added that Flores allegedly "disappeared" from the Philadelphia area around the same time DeJesus was reported missing. After the FBI declared he was wanted, they explained that Flores was imprisoned in Arizona and deported to Honduras after he was released in 2005 for an unrelated crime. A local arrest warrant was obtained on March 22, 2007, in Pennsylvania after Flores was charged with murder and other felonies, according to the FBI's website. That same day, a federal arrest warrant was issued in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, when Flores was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Flores was removed from the FBI's Most Wanted List in March 2025 following an overall program review, in which the bureau's Criminal Investigative Division tries to ensure that the list remains current. Philadelphia Man Charged With Murder of Girlfriend's 2-Year-Old Daughter The fugitive's arrest comes shortly after the FBI arrested former Canadian Olympic snowboarder and FBI Ten Most Wanted fugitive Ryan Wedding in Mexico in January. Wedding was wanted on suspicion of drug trafficking and was believed to be hiding in Mexico for more than a decade in an attempt to avoid being arrested. "Wedding was flown to the United States where he will face justice," U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote in a social media post on January 23. "This is a direct result of President Trump's law-and-order leadership. Under @POTUS, criminals have no safe harbor. Director [Kash] Patel has worked tirelessly to bring fugitives to justice. We are grateful to our incredible Ambassador Ron Johnson and the Mexican authorities for assisting us in this case."
