Darron Lee, a former New York Jets first-round draft pick, will remain in jail after being accused of allegedly killing his girlfriend and attempting to tamper with evidence. Lee, 31, was denied bond at a court hearing on Wednesday, February 11, and may face the death penalty after being brought into custody late last week on charges related to the murder of 29-year-old Gabriella Perpétuo on February 5. Perpétuo was found dead by police responding to a report of CPR in progress at a residence in Ooltewah, Tennessee. "Upon arrival, first responders located a female victim and attempted life-saving measures; it was determined she was deceased," according to an update from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. It was announced via Facebook that HCSO Criminal Investigative Services Detectives were called "due to the condition of the victim and the residence." The microwave was shattered, and narcotics and a gun were found on the premises. "There was blood going up the staircase, on the hand railing there was blood, on the walls there was blood, on the floor in the living room there was blood, in the floor on the hallway and the stairs ... there was blood in just about every room except one," Lockhart said, per WTVC. The medical examiner determined that she ultimately died from blunt force trauma. Her severe injuries included a broken neck, black eyes with heavy swelling, bruising across her body, a large bite mark on her shoulder and thigh, and stab wounds to her legs. Lee reportedly told deputies that she was diagnosed with narcolepsy and might have fallen in the shower. It was noted in the affidavit that Lee had a facial injury, cuts on his hands, wounds on his chest and blood in his cellphone case. The affidavit also mentioned that cleaning supplies, including bleach wipes, were found near where testing confirmed that blood stains were present but not visible. Lee, a former Ohio State linebacker who played with the Jets, Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills, was already on probation for a prior aggravated assault with a deadly weapon conviction in Florida. The court was told he relocated despite not having approval from his probation officer. "Mr. Lee was in a home with a female that was, for lack of a better term, beaten to death," Wamp told the judge. "And the explanation that he gave doesn't make any sense whatsoever."
