We are learning more about James Van Der Beek's final days. On Wednesday, news broke that the beloved Dawson's Creek star passed away after years of battling colorectal cancer. It's devastating that we lost another amazing human to such a cruel disease - and what makes it even more heartbreaking is now knowing how he spent the last few weeks of his life. He was mostly in bed because he was very weak, and he was not eating." Oof. His family was there by his side through it all, but they, understandably, struggled to see him so sick. The insider continued: "He was in hospice, they held his hand and were there for him, of course, but it has been hard because James was so ill, he was weak. He had so much charisma, he was a wonderful soul, and his presence is missed. Those poor little kids." James leaves behind six children, Olivia, 15, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 12, Emilia, 9, Gwendolyn, 7, and Jeremiah, 4, whom he shared with wife Kimberly Van Der Beek. And as you can imagine, they are all heartbroken over the loss of the 48-year-old actor: "This is very hard for the family, they are totally broken over his passing because he was the patriarch, he was the leader. There are puddles of tears everywhere and it all falls on Kimberly's shoulders." On top of grieving this loss, the family is now having to worry about their finances, as providing James with the best possible care while battling colorectal cancer has left them "out of funds." He reportedly required near-constant treatments and doctor appointments, which made it difficult for him to work consistently. However, a source revealed to Dailymail.com that the Varsity Blues alum "had not been in treatment for a while because there was nothing more the doctors could do, the cancer was aggressive," adding: "James wanted peace the last few weeks of his life." We're glad James got to spend his last few weeks in peace and surrounded by loved ones. He deserved that and more... The family does have a GoFundMe set up to "help cover essential living expenses, pay bills, and support the children's education," and you can donate HERE if you would like. We continue to keep Kimberly and the kids in our thoughts during this tough time.
