When I was about twelve, I underwent the life-changing event many young girls do: Watching Phantom of the Opera for the first time. I can still recite the entire three-part, gut-wrenching ending to you, which is a task no one has ever asked me to do. In fact, I'll watch it now with people, and they'll scoff at the candles and the corsets and the melodrama of it all. The developed part of my brain gets it.
