Kelly Clarkson is putting herself first. The pop star announced the end of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, earlier this month, stepping away after a year full of mysterious absences, talks of fights with HR, and the heartbreaking loss of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. According to a new Us Weekly source on Wednesday, the American Idol alum has been doing what's expected of her and putting everyone else "first" - but it's time for that to change: "Kelly's been through so much in her life, and she just pushes on. A lot of that comes from her selfless nature. She has people who depend on her, and she puts them first." It's her entire life." She also never expected the show to be as successful as it was or to last as long, noting: "She was surprised. The talk show became more than she initially bargained for, and left her with little time to pursue anything else." Pointing out that she's happiest making music, the source shared: "Kelly asked herself, 'Do I want to spend the rest of my life doing this?' She wants to focus on things that she really loves." And after the gut-wrenching loss of her ex, that really puts everything into perspective! Along with music and raising her children, she also has a home line of furniture and decor that takes up her time. The first source said: "When [Kelly leaves the show], she can split her time between live performances and her merchandising deals and take a step back." And it would also be totally reasonable to take a step back solely based on Brandon's death, which the first source said "was a huge shock," though they're all "doing as well as can be expected" now. A loss like that, especially for her two young kids, is so, so difficult. Of course, she wants more time to care for them. She's been leaning on her mom, Jeanne, and sister, Alyssa, and some childhood friends and music industry folks to get through: "She is very tight with her sister and spends as much time with her as she can." Frankly, it sounds like she's fine stepping out of the spotlight a bit, especially since the musician has never been a big fan of the party scene: "Kelly's a real homebody. When she isn't working, which is rare, she likes to be home, watching movies and hanging out. That's how she unwinds." But it's not all bad news. As she ends the show and focuses on her personal life, she's also opening up to dating again! She hasn't had a public relationship since her split from Brandon, but that could be changing: "Kelly would love to have a partner, and she will when the time is right. She has so much on her shoulders, and it does get overwhelming, and it's nice to have someone to lean on. But I can't imagine her bringing someone into their lives right now." But when the time is right and the right guy comes along, she's open to it. The source said she wants someone who understands her lifestyle and can make her laugh (though she's unlikely to get married again). The confidant elaborated: "She needs some lightness back in her life. Kelly jokes she never wanted to get married the first time around. And she's pretty open about how badly her divorce affected her." The second insider speculated she could be considering a move from NYC to Tennessee, where she lived before the divorce: "NYC was fun initially, but then it became stressful. Kelly prefers the quality of life she had in Nashville. It's a slower [lifestyle] where she can focus on her creative projects at her own pace." But the first source cautioned this thought, claiming it's unlikely she'll move soon since the family is "very happy with their NYC life," and she "would not want to introduce any more change to their lives at the moment. She is taking it all day by day." The show won't be over until the fall, so she has plenty of time to think it all over and to savor the end of an iconic daytime series run. The second insider reflected: "Everybody at the show loves her, and she loves everyone. It's been super positive all around. .... Kelly wants to work on other projects.
