[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content] A butcher's guilt following the murder of her girlfriend ate away at her so badly, she finally confessed the crime to cops 15 years later. The shocking story comes out of Derbyshire, England, where 40-year-old Anna Podedworna (seen above) was recently convicted of murder for a crime that happened in 2010. Both Podedworna and her then-girlfriend Izabela Zablocka, 30, were from Poland, and moved to the UK together in 2009. Reportedly, per a press release, they had a very turbulent relationship - and it ended in tragedy. In August 2010, Zablocka's family - including her mother and 9-year-old daughter - back in Poland suddenly stopped receiving calls from her. They got really worried for her safety, knowing of the situation she was in, and reported her missing in the UK. At the time, Podedworna claimed her partner had left weeks ago, fleeing to London after an altercation with someone dangerous... This statement wouldn't be proven untrue until 2025. This came after she "cracked" due to "mounting pressure" after a Polish journalist wanted to interview her about the missing Zablocka. In her email, Podedworna claimed she'd been violently killed in an altercation between the two lovers that ended in her acting in self-defense. Despite her claims, she was arrested immediately on suspicion of murder. Way to go for those police doing their jobs! Because what they'd discover in that garden was horrifying... Zablocka's body was found right where Podedworna said it would be, under some concrete in the garden. They discovered she had been cut into pieces and tied up "like a chicken" with electrical tape, wrapped in several trash bags in a "filthy, makeshift grave." Just awful. Upon more investigation, police discovered Podedworna hit her girlfriend over the head with a horse statue and killed her. She claimed in a trial last week that this was all based on self-defense, because she was afraid her girlfriend was going to "kill" her. She alleged her partner had been "angry" on the day of her death, grabbing and strangling her. She said per ITV News: "At that time I was scared to be around the house... I was scared of speaking to her because I did not know what was going on." She then confessed what exactly she did following the murder: "I checked her pulse on the neck. I was trying to resuscitate her. ... I thought I will bury her. I took the decision I would bury her in the garden. I wanted to pick her up whole. I just did not have the strength to pick her up. I had an idea to cut her down. It seemed the only way... to cut her into two." Whoa... Horrifying. In the trial, the jury heard from prosecutors that Podedworna was a skilled butcher who specialized in "skinning, deboning, and portioning out turkey carcasses using a large knife." Chilling to hear, knowing what we know now. She also said in the trial that she felt like she was "some type of monster" and that she didn't call for help back then because she was scared of going to prison. The poor Zablocka family... Looking for her for all these years when Podedworna knew the whole time! And who knows if we'd ever know the truth if the guilt wasn't too unbearable! On Tuesday, nearly 16 years after Zablocka's disappearance, Podedworna was officially found guilty of murder. Samantha Shallow of the Crown Prosecution Service said in court Tuesday: "Izabela Zablocka came to Derby in search of a new life with her partner, but instead met her death. Anna Podedworna not only brutally murdered her partner, but she subjected Izabela's loved ones to 15 years of uncertainty and anguish, not knowing if she was alive or dead. Podedworna hid the truth for years, but justice has caught up with her. Her callous actions took a mother and daughter away from her family and denied them the opportunity to grieve her passing and lay her to rest. I would like to offer them my sincere sympathies." So, so sad... Podedworna is due to be sentenced on Wednesday, February 11. We can't imagine what Izabela's family is going through right now, but we hope the fact her killer was caught is able to bring them some semblance of peace. May she get the justice she deserves.
