Lindsey Vonn is speaking out for the first time after her terrifying crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics. In case you missed it, the 41-year-old American alpine ski racer crashed 13 seconds into her run of the women's downhill final after her ski pole reportedly got caught on a course marker. She tumbled multiple times in the air before slamming down onto the ground and yelling, "Oh my God," in pain. Medical personnel rushed to her aid, and she was quickly put on a stretcher and airlifted to Ca Foncello hospital in Trevizo, Italy. According to Reuters, the hospital said she underwent surgery to "stabilize" a fracture in her left leg. U.S. Ski & Snowboarding also said Lindsey was "in stable condition." Related: Olympics Opening Ceremony Gives The Sweetest Statement Amid Savannah Guthrie's Absence She suffered an injury to the same leg earlier, "completely" rupturing her ACL in her final World Cup race before the games, and decided to compete anyway despite the risks. So, it's a heartbreaking outcome for the comeback queen. Many wanted to see Lindsey on that podium in the end, especially since this was her final Olympics. Although things didn't turn out the way she expected, Lindsey ultimately has "no regrets." She broke her silence on the horrifying crash in an Instagram post on Monday, saying: "Yesterday my Olympic dream did not finish the way I dreamt it would. It wasn't a story book ending or a fairy tail, it was just life. I dared to dream and had worked so hard to achieve it. Because in Downhill ski racing the difference between a strategic line and a catastrophic injury can be as small as 5 inches." Lindsey explained she "was simply 5 inches too tight on my line when my right arm hooked inside of the gate, twisting me and resulted in my crash." And despite what some may think, she insisted her "ACL and past injuries had nothing to do with" the accident "whatsoever." Sadly, Lindsey has a long road to recovery ahead of her. She shared that she "sustained a complex tibia fracture that is currently stable but will require multiple surgeries to fix properly." Oof. But even with the brutal injury, she doesn't regret anything! She continued: "While yesterday did not end the way I had hoped, and despite the intense physical pain it caused, I have no regrets. Standing in the starting gate yesterday was an incredible feeling that I will never forget. Knowing I stood there having a chance to win was a victory in and of itself. I also knew that racing was a risk. It always was and always will be an incredibly dangerous sport. I tried. I dreamt. I jumped." Now Lindsey hopes everyone takes one thing away from her Olympic journey: "I hope if you take away anything from my journey it's that you all have the courage to dare greatly. Life is too short not to take chances on yourself. Because the only failure in life is not trying. I believe in you, just as you believed in me." Lindsey will forever be a champion! We're so proud of her for going out there and trying her best!
