Savannah Guthrie's co-stars are having a tough time as they figure out how to continue covering the sad disappearance of her mother, Nancy, while also doing their jobs. On Monday morning's episode, Hoda Kotb was back to fill in for her friend. Sitting by co-anchor Craig Melvin, Hoda remarked: "You know what, Craig? We always talk about our show as a family. We are a family. I'm part of the family. I'm happy to be with you because we show up for each other." Hoda was supposed to be covering the opening of the Olympics alongside Savannah, but they (as well as Craig) dropped out of their duties as the investigation to find the 84-year-old continues. Hoda, who retired over a year ago, first returned to the program on Friday. Related: Cops Search Home Of Savannah's Sister For Hours - Again Also during the new episode, Craig opened up about the challenges of covering such a personal story and asked viewers for "grace," expressing: "Hoda's joining us this morning as our Today family continues to navigate uncharted territory balancing the updates on the search for Savannah's mom with all the other stories of the day like we normally do but we know things are far from normal right now. So, folks, we are asking for your grace as we continue to do this." Hoda added: "Paramount through all of this, Savannah and her family are our top priority in addition to that, there is also a job to do." She noted the show's "thoughts and prayers are with [Savannah] 24/7." Al Roker doubled down on all this, saying the Today Show's approach to this heartbreaking true crime case is "exactly what Savannah would actually want us to do." We cannot imagine how difficult it must be to be covering this case while worrying about their colleague and friend, especially after some of the BTS tension we've heard about!
