As many hosts do, the Puerto Rican icon had multiple musical guests join him on stage to perform with him during his medley of hit songs. Lady Gaga made a surprise appearance and, even more surprising, opting to sing her own song, "Die With a Smile," in a new arrangement. She then danced with Bad Bunny as he joined her on the stage. Ricky Martin also joined the performance, and much like Gaga, sang alone on the stage. He performed a portion of Bad Bunny's song "LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii." Green Day, vocal critics of the current administration, kicked off the Super Bowl's pre-game entertainment lineup. During the performance, they sang their hit song "American Idiot," seemingly ignoring broadcast standards to say the words, "the subliminal mind-fuck America," as they're written in the song, although it appeared that NBC censors garbled the lyrics so that it wasn't heard clearly. Prior to the pre-game show, Coco Jones performed "Lift Every Voice and Sing." During the kickoff show, Carlile performed just before Charlie Puth, who sang the National Anthem just before the game started. Much like Green Day, the Puerto Rican superstar has been a vocal critic of the Trump Administration, using the stage of the Grammys to call out ICE. "We're not savages, we're not animals, we're not aliens, we are humans and we are Americans," he said. "The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love," he continued. "We need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love. We don't hate them. We love our people. We love our family, and that's the way to do it with love. Don't forget that, please." During Bad Bunny's halftime performance, screens inside Levi's Stadium expressed part of that message. "The only thing more powerful than hate is love," the screens read behind the singer as he and the crowd sang a reprisal of his hit song "DtMF."
