Vice President JD Vance received a not so pleasant greeting at the 2026 Olympics. JD, 41, and his wife, Usha Vance, attended the opening ceremony at the Milano San Siro Olympic Stadium in Milan on Friday, February 6. During the broadcast, the couple held up American flags as they cheered on Team USA during the Parade of Nations. The Vice President and the second lady were also shown on the stadium's jumbotron, greeted by loud boos from the crowd, per the NBC broadcast. "There is Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha ... those were a lot of boos for him," an NBC announcer said during the broadcast. "Whistling, jeering and some applause." JD Vance's Wife Usha Vance Is Pregnant, Expecting Baby No. 4 USA Today also reported on Friday that Vance was being "booed loudly" by the crowd. Ahead of the ceremony, International Olympics Committee President Kirsty Coventry shared in a Wednesday, February 4, press conference, that she hoped the crowd would be respectful to the various attendees. "I hope that the opening ceremony is seen by everyone as an opportunity to be respectful of each other," she said. "No one is asking what country they come from or what religion. They are all just hanging out. It was a real opportunity to put into perspective how we could all be. And so, for me, I hope that the opening ceremony will do that and will be a reminder for everyone how we could be." When JD arrived in Milan on Thursday, February 5, he expressed his excitement for the games telling reporters that the Olympics "is one of the few things that unites the entire country." "The whole country - Democrat, Republican, Independent - we're all rooting for you and we're cheering for you," Vance said, per the Associated Press. This isn't the first time a political figure has been booed during a sporting event. President Donald Trump was booed last year when he attended Super Bowl LIX. JD and Usha's outing comes one month after the couple, who wed in 2014, announced they are expecting baby No. 4. (The pair are parents to sons Ewan, 8, and Vivek, 6, as well as daughter Mirabel, 4.) JD Vance Says Wife Usha's Pregnancy Proves He 'Practices What He Preaches' "We're very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy," read a joint statement shared via Usha's Instagram at the time. "Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July." The statement continued, "During this exciting and hectic time, we are particularly grateful for the military doctors who take excellent care of our family and for the staff members who do so much to ensure that we can serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with our children." Before announcing their pregnancy, rumors swirled that JD and Usha, 40, were headed for a split after the second lady was spotted out and about not wearing her wedding ring. JD shut down the speculation in December 2025. "With anything in life, you take the good with the bad," he said in an interview with NBC News. "You accept that there are some sacrifices and there are some very good things that come along with it, too. But our marriage is as strong as it's ever been, and I think Usha's really taken to it, and it's been kind of cool to see how she's developed and evolved in this new role."
