Amanda Seyfried is just like Us when it comes to imagining a potential plot for Mamma Mia! 3. "If I don't get it, I will be pissed. I really want to be in it, but I don't know much else about it," Seyfried, 40, said of hoping for her character Sophie Sheridan's involvement in the sequel on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, February 6. Seyfried recently revealed that she'd want to see Sophie raising children, mirroring her experience with motherhood in real life. (Sophie welcomed a son, Donny, at the end of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Seyfried shares kids Nina, 8, and Thomas, 5, with husband Thomas Sadoski.) "Oh, with kids. I mean, I love being a mother," she told People in December 2025 of how she envisions Sophie now. "I love playing a mother, and I would love to dive into the curiosities of motherhood and raising children on a Greek island - just like Donna did with Sophie." Amanda Seyfried Thinks Potential 'Mamma Mia 3' Will Come Down to 'Timing' Seyfried added, "I think that would be really interesting. I have no idea where the story is going to go, but I know there's going to be a lot of singing and dancing. I'm going to keep campaigning for that movie until I'm blue in the face." It's been years since 2008's Mamma Mia! and 2018's Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again brought the free-spirited Sheridan girls to the big screen, but cast members have never given up on a third installment. "I was in London with [producer] Judy Craymer at our favorite watering hole. She is planning Mamma Mia! 3," Christine Baranski, who plays Tanya Chesham-Leigh, told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024. "She gave me the narrative plotline of how it's going to happen. That's all I can say!" She continued, "It's not like, 'Oh, I wish it could happen!' Judy Craymer makes things happen. She made No. 2 happen, and it was a phenomenal hit. I wouldn't put it past Judy Craymer to get everybody back together." Similarly, Meryl Streep, who portrays Donna Sheridan-Carmichael, also expressed interest in a third film, despite her character's heartbreaking death in the second movie. Monica Schipper/Getty Images "I'm up for anything," she told Vogue in September 2023. "I told Judy if she could figure out a way to reincarnate Donna, I'm into that. Or it could be like in one of those soap operas where Donna comes back and reveals it was really her twin sister that died. We may have to call it Grand-Mamma Mia! by the time we make it!" Stellan Skarsgård, who plays Bill Anderson, also gave fans hope that Donna could be revived in some capacity. "Everybody can be brought back in the movies," Skarsgård, 74, told Us Weekly in the 2026 Golden Globe Awards press room in January. "In the movies, it's fantastic!" The Sentimental Value actor noted, "A lot of people are working on it to bring it back," adding, "She's not dead, you know! Meryl Streep [as Donna] is not dead!" That same month, Seyfried appeared on the "On Film...
With Kevin McCarthy" podcast with The Testament of Ann Lee director Mina Fastvold, who expressed interest in directing Mamma Mia! 3. However, Seyfried joked that The Housemaid director Paul Feig had signed on to direct the project "a couple weeks" prior. Feig, 63, has not publicly commented on the matter.
