He was 69. Printz died Jan. 23 in Los Angeles, his wife, former casting director Shani Ginsberg, announced. A native of Reading, Pennsylvania, Printz began his career as a DGA trainee on such films as Better Off Dead (1985) and Psycho III (1986). He became a second or first assistant director on series including ABC's The Wonder Years (from 1988-92), Fox's Party of Five and USA's Monk and on such films as Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (1991), Fools Rush In (1997) and Hitch (2005). He earned his first producing credit on the second season of the former series in 2008. More recently, he produced for the streaming dramas Truth Be Told at Apple TV and Bookie at HBO Max. Colleagues membered Printz for his warmth, his calm and even-handed demeanor. "There are only a couple of people I've worked with who were as knowledgeable about what all the departments did and what their needs were," cinematographer Tim Suhrstedt said in a statement. "Scott was extraordinarily intelligent and unfailingly honest. Production crews trusted and respected him." Added director and frequent collaborator Andy Tennant: "Scott was a gentle, confident leader of the pack." A member of the DGA and the Television Academy, the UC San Diego graduate was an avid outdoorsman who loved music, films and cooking. In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Arlen and Jesse; Jesse's partner, Christina; his siblings, Matthew, Kyle and Vicki; and his mother, Shirley, Donations in his honor can be made to The Nature Conservancy and/or the Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research.
