Friends Like These, which will premiere March 6 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+, will examine the case of the West Virginia 16-year-old who vanished from her home in July 2012, prompting a months-long search. An investigation by the federal and state law enforcement eventually implicated a couple of Neese's closest friends in her death in a shocking case that received national media attention. The series is directed by Clair Titley, the filmmaker behind Hulu's 2023 documentary The Contestant. Pamela: A Love Story and Anatomy of Lies production company Dorothy St. Pictures is producing. "From the thrill of rebellion to the fragility of friendship, this three-part series captures the pressures of growing up in the digital age - and the devastating consequences when love turns to hate," Hulu's press release states. "As the truth unfolds, the chilling series challenges our understanding of memory, trust and loyalty. " The series will use interviews with people close to the case, social media posts and Neese's own writing to tell the story. The Neese case was previously covered on 20/20 and featured on episodes of the Discovery+ series Deadliest Kids and See No Evil as well as Lifetime's Sleeping With a Killer. When released, the Neese story will join a lineup of true-crime docuseries on Hulu that includes 2025's Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke, Death in Apartment 603: What Happened to Ellen Greenberg? and Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna.
