Catherine Zeta-Jones is loving New York living - but did moving away from Los Angeles have a negative impact on her acting career? "It's funny. I've lived on the East Coast and for many, many years with Michael [Douglas], and it's interesting whether it's been detrimental to my career," the Chicago actress told People on Monday, February 2. "I never quite know, because I've never been in L.A. schmoozing." Zeta-Jones, 56, and Douglas, 81, primarily live just outside of Manhattan, "40 minutes" to be exact. The Wednesday actress revealed she spends "more time with New York business people, Wall Street people, art people" than her Hollywood counterparts. "Our friends and our people we bump into are different than I would be if I was in L.A. And that's not detrimental to L.A. and people who live there at all; it's just I swing in a few different roundabouts here in the city," she continued. Michael Douglas Makes Sweet Comment About Romance With Catherine Zeta-Jones Zeta-Jones described herself as an art buff, so the creative scene in the Big Apple is something she's heavily involved in. "I used to go and love to look at people's art in their fancy houses in the Hamptons," she told the outlet, adding that she is "a bit of an eclectic collector." The Mask of Zorro actress previously opened up about splitting her time between her four homes outside of the Hollywood gaze last summer. (In addition to two houses in New York, Zeta-Jones and Douglas own properties in Canada and Spain.) "I know it sounds very jet-set, and I love to surround myself with beauty but it's not excessive, it's very comfortable," Zeta-Jones told The Sunday Times in August 2025. Zeta-Jones and Douglas put their Irivington, New York, home on the market for $12 million in June 2024. The home has not yet been sold, per Realtor.com. Zeta-Jones explained to The Wall Street Journal at the time that the decision to list the family home came after their kids, Dylan, 25, and Carys, 22, moved out to begin new chapters in their lives. (Douglas also shares older son Cameron, 47, with ex-wife Diandra Luker.) Noam Galai/Getty Images for Netflix "When I purchased our Irvington home, I knew our family would share many happy times here, and we have," she told the outlet of the listing. "Now that both our son and daughter have left the nest it seems like the right time to sell." During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers last year, Zeta-Jones said she and Douglas were "thriving" and "having a great time" as empty nesters. "It's like, 'What's gonna happen?' Oh, it's like, you're gonna look at your husband and go, 'Remember me?' No!" she said of living without kids on the September 2025 episode. "We're good. And the coolest thing is our kids, who are now 25 and [22], like to hang with us. And that's the best. But if I was a kid, I'd want to hang out with Michael Douglas, too." Zeta-Jones also revealed she and Douglas planned to "spend more time in Bermuda and Europe" in the future. The couple previously owned properties in Bermuda and Mallorca.
