Savannah Guthrie will no longer host the 2026 Winter Olympics ceremony as the search continues for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie. "Savannah will not be joining us at the Olympics as she focuses on being with her family during this difficult time. Our hearts are with her and the entire Guthrie family as the search continues for their mother," an NBC Sports spokesperson told Us Weekly in a statement on Tuesday, January 3. "We will share additional information about our Opening Ceremony coverage plans soon." Savannah, 54, was set to cohost the Friday, February 6, event in Italy with sports commentator Terry Gannon. Following the opening ceremony, she was scheduled to spend a full week in Italy cohosting Today with Hoda Kotb, who is expected to be in the European country for the duration of the games. The news of Savannah's exit from NBC's Olympics coverage comes after her mother was declared missing on Sunday, February 1. During a news conference on Monday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that Nancy's disappearance is being investigated as a crime. The sheriff further noted that Nancy relies on daily medication, adding that it could be "fatal" for her to miss a dose. Nanos also told reporters that Nancy's disappearance was not linked to dementia, describing her as being "of sound mind" and "sharp as a tack." Savannah missed the Monday episode of the Today show but shared a statement from the Guthrie family that Sheinelle Jones and Craig Melvin read on air. "On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom," the statement read. "We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900." "She has no cognitive issues at all." Savannah's NBC coworkers expressed their sympathy throughout Monday's broadcast, with Jenna Bush Hager nearly breaking into tears while discussing the situation on Today With Jenna & Sheinelle.
