Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos doesn't believe Savannah Guthrie's mom, Nancy Guthrie, was targeted before her disappearance. "I think everybody, rightfully so, understands that her daughter Savannah is a national figure out there at least within the news media, and that's always a possibility," Nanos exclusively shared with Us Weekly on Monday, February 2. "But we're not getting that sense, and we keep working with Savannah and her security team to understand any kind of threat or potential threat that they may have been working and we're just not there." Nanos reiterated that Nancy's family "really wants her back" home and police are doing all they can to get answers. "This is an 84-year-old lady who is safe in her own home asleep, and she is taken," Nanos added. "And that should never happen." Savannah Guthrie's Mom Nancy Is Missing in Arizona: Timeline of the Case In a separate interview with NBC News on Monday, Nanos shared his belief that Nancy, 84, was abducted. The department later clarified that the sheriff was speaking figuratively and did not mean that Nancy was literally taken from her bed. News broke on Sunday, February 1, that Nancy was reported missing in Arizona. Nanos confirmed to Us that Savannah's older sister Annie was the last person to see Nancy prior to her reported disappearance on Saturday, January 31. (Nancy also shared son Camron Guthrie with late husband Charles Guthrie, who died after a heart attack at the age of 49.) When Nancy didn't show up to church Sunday morning, a concerned church member called her family, who then went to her home around 11 a.m. to look for her, police stated. Savannah and Nancy Guthrie Courtesy of NBC News "We don't want anybody to lose hope," Nanos told Us. "But in the same sense, just as there's hope, there's also things that point to us that say, 'This lady's in danger.'" The Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed that a reward has been offered for information related to Nancy's disappearance. "Reward up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved in the disappearance," a statement read on Facebook. "The Pima County Sheriff's Department is seeking the public's assistance with any information related to the disappearance of Mrs. Nancy Guthrie. She was last seen at her home near Skyline and Campbell around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026. Any video and photograph information is strongly requested for evaluation and analysis of evidentiary value." Savannah Guthrie's 'Today' Cohosts React to Her Mom Nancy's Disappearance As Savannah, 54, remains in Arizona to be closer to her relatives, the Today show coanchor continues to receive support from her NBC News family. "If you know Savannah, then you know her mom, because she raised her through some very tough times," Tom Llamas said on Monday's NBC Nightly News. "Savannah shared that it was her mother who taught her the power of prayer, the types of prayers that make you get on your knees and pray for God's protection. Savannah and her family need your prayers tonight." Llamas, 46, added, "Savannah, we know how strong you are. We are praying and we won't stop until you find her."
