Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, made a rare appearance on the Today show just two months before she went missing. During her November 2025 daytime TV cameo, Nancy, 84, shared what made the city of Tucson, Arizona, so meaningful to her. In the segment, Savannah, 54, returned to her beloved hometown to catch up with her mom and her sister, Annie. "It's so wonderful," Nancy told Savannah about why she "put down roots" in Tuscon. "Just the air, the quality of life is laid back and gentle. I like to watch the hovalina eat my plants." Savannah echoed those sentiments during their shared TV segment. Nanos revealed that a friend from Nancy's church noticed she did not attend the service per usual and, as a show of concern, reached out to one of her children. (Nancy shares daughters Savannah and Annie as well as son Camron with late husband Charles, who died from a heart attack at age 49.) Nanos said the friend paid a visit to Nancy's home and "did some searching" before realizing help was needed and calling 911. Nanos called the situation "very concerning" while sharing the update, stating that authorities are not willing to rule out foul play. Police Call Savannah Guthrie's Mom Nancy's Home a 'Crime Scene' Amid Search A nearby resident named Morgan Brown, who lives "a quarter of a mile up the street" from Nancy's residence, told Us exclusively that those living in the neighborhood are being told to "look at our Ring cameras to see if anything popped up out of the ordinary." Brown said they were informed authorities are "narrowing it down" to some time between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. local time on Sunday morning that Nancy went missing. Brown told Us that both "vans and helicopters" were seen around Nancy's address on Sunday afternoon. "This is the foothills of Tucson," Nancy's neighbor further explained. "If you step two feet off the road, you are basically in the thick of the cactus. It's not gated at all." Amid the ongoing search, Savannah was noticeably absent from the Monday, February 2, broadcast of the Today show and was later confirmed to be in Arizona during the show. Sheinelle Jones joined Craig Melvin to helm the desk during the first hour. "On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom," a statement shared on behalf of Savannah and her family read. "We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900."
