A rapper and Twitch streamer known as Aspen Kartier has been arrested in Georgia after a video allegedly showing her abusing a puppy went viral, according to police and news reports. The 19-year-old, whose legal name is Aspen Easterling, was arrested at her Brookhaven home on an animal cruelty charge the evening of Friday, January 30, the Brookhaven Police Department announced in a news release the next day. Her arrest comes after the department received a series of complaints from the local community about a video of a dog being abused at her Brookhaven residence, authorities said. Brookhaven is an Atlanta suburb, located about a 10-mile drive northeast from the city. The complaints led officers to investigate "social media posts circulating online" in relation to Easterling's three-month-old Maltipoo puppy, according to police. Information on Easterling's legal representation was not immediately available on Monday, February 2. A video of the alleged animal abuse was shared by PETA on X. The disturbing footage appears to show Easterling repeatedly hitting her young puppy and grabbing it by its neck, holding it in the air. The puppy's cries are heard in the clip. Georgia Police Identify Suspect In 'Sickening' Animal Cruelty Case "@Twitch streamer Aspen Kartier was apparently caught on video striking her puppy as he wailed in fear," the organization wrote on January 30. " Anyone who would beat and terrify their dog should never go near one!" Brookhaven police executed search warrants at Easterling's home that night and detained her, according to authorities. Her dog was also rescued. The puppy "appeared to be in good health," police said. DeKalb County Animal Control took custody of the puppy. Police said that the agency can be contacted for information on adopting the puppy, as well as its status. Easterling, meanwhile, was booked at the DeKalb County Jail. As of February 2, Easterling's Twitch channel appeared to be temporarily suspended. It is unclear how long the suspension will last. "This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch's Community Guidelines or Terms of Service," reads a message associated with her Twitch profile. After the video of Easterling appearing to hurt her dog emerged, she posted another video addressing the matter and denied that the puppy was hurt, TMZ reported. Easterling has more than 71,000 Twitch followers, according to Complex magazine, which reports that she is a drill rapper originally from Chicago. On Spotify, she has nearly 240,000 monthly listeners. Her songs include "I Do," "Percocet Love," and "Free Clout." Over 2 Dozen Dogs Found Dead in Backyard Pile at Alabama Home: Sheriff Following Easterling's arrest, PETA shared another post on X, in which the organization wrote "Thank you to everyone who spoke out about this case!" "Never be silent if you see abuse," PETA added. The Brookhaven Police Department continues to investigate the animal cruelty case. The department asks that anyone with information relevant to the investigation to contact the agency at 404-637-0600. If you know of or suspect animal abuse or neglect, you are urged to contact the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals through their website or call your local animal control officer.
